The pilot directed the fast small craft on a collision course with the target, then ejected safely before impact. Upon collision, the explosive charge in the bow detonated, causing severe damage. The most famous mission took place in 1941, when Luigi Faggioni and his team successfully attacked the British cruiser HMS York at Suda Bay, Crete.
