HMS Hood was the only completed ship of the Admiral class and entered Royal Navy service in May 1920. In May 1941 she was dispatched together with HMS Prince of Wales to intercept Bismarck and Prinz Eugen. During the Battle of the Denmark Strait on 24 May 1941, Hood was hit near her magazine and suffered a catastrophic explosion that caused the ship to sink within minutes. Only three of her 1,418 crew survived. The wreck was located in 2001 and is designated as a war grave.
