The Alvis FV603 Saracen was developed by the renowned Alvis Company of Coventry, a company known in the 1930s for prestigious cars. Due to the urgent situation in Malaya, production of this armoured personnel carrier was prioritised in the late 1940s. The Saracen became known for its strong off-road capabilities, protection for crew and troops, and its recognisable use in urban patrol scenes around the world. – The original vehicle was powered by a Rolls-Royce B80 Mk.3A engine with 160 hp and armed with two 7.62 mm or 7.7 mm machine guns
– The design focused on protection against small-calibre weapons, high off-road mobility and a high top speed
– Many components from the FV601 Alvis Saladin were used to shorten design time and reduce production costs
– The Alvis Saracen became an important vehicle in the British Army, remained in service until 1993 and was eventually succeeded by vehicles such as the FV432
– The Saracen played a major role in Ulster and was also used or associated with conflicts such as the Biafra War and the Lebanese Civil War
– The vehicle was exported to several countries, including Indonesia, Jordan and Sri Lanka
