The Stryker concept emerged around the beginning of the 20th and 21st century from the US Army’s need for speed, mobility and rapid strategic deployment. The vehicle concept was built around the ability to deploy light infantry brigades, later known as Stryker Brigade Combat Teams, anywhere in the world within 96 hours. The first prototypes were built around 2000, serial production began in 2002 and by early 2018 an estimated 4,900 vehicles had been produced. The Stryker is powered by a 350 hp Caterpillar C7 engine and combines high mobility with upgrade potential and relatively light armour up to 15 mm.

The M1126 ICV carries a 9-man infantry squad and their equipment, with a crew of two: a driver and vehicle commander. The basic version is armed with either two 7.62 mm machine guns or a Mk.19 grenade launcher and a 7.62 mm machine gun.
