1:35 Trumpeter 00383 Entwicklungsfahrzeug E-25 – German Tank Destroyer Plastic Model kit
The 1:35 Trumpeter 00383 Entwicklungsfahrzeug E-25 is a sharp plastic model kit of an experimental German tank destroyer from the Second World War. This Static Armor model is perfect for modellers who enjoy German prototype vehicles, Entwicklungsserie projects and compact tank destroyers with a low, aggressive profile. Because the E-25 never entered mass production, you build a subject that stands out immediately among better-known German WWII vehicles.
The E-25 was part of the Entwicklungsfahrzeug programme created by Oberbaurat Kniepkamp of Wa Pruef 6. This programme was intended to create a standardised series of German fighting vehicles in different weight classes, using as many common components as possible. The E-25 was planned as a vehicle in the 25 ton class, with rear drive and many shared parts with the E-10. The detailed design contract was awarded to Argus Werke in Karlsruhe, with the project directed by Dr. Klaue. Its battlefield role was intended to include reconnaissance and fighting enemy medium tanks, with the eventual aim of replacing the Pz.Kpfw. III, Pz.Kpfw. IV and vehicles based on their chassis.
In January 1945, the Entwicklungskommission still considered the design worth pursuing because it filled a vacancy in the Panzerprogramm for vehicles in the 25 ton class. One drawing shows the E-25 fitted with a 7.5 cm Pak L/70 gun mounted on the glacis plate, while the final weapon for series production had not yet been determined. Only a few Versuchsfahrgestell were ordered and the design had not progressed far enough for mass production. According to postwar statements by Kniepkamp, three E-25 hulls were reported at Alkett in Berlin-Spandau, but they were no longer there when the Western Allies investigated.
