1:35 Trumpeter 00387 B1 Centauro AFV – Late Version (3rd Series) – Italian Tank Destroyer Plastic Model kit
The 1:35 Trumpeter 00387 B1 Centauro AFV Late Version is a strong plastic model kit of an Italian eight-wheeled tank destroyer with a modern appearance and impressive firepower. This Static Armor model is ideal for modellers who want to build a contemporary European armoured vehicle with a recognisable wheeled chassis, military strength and strong diorama value.
The B1 Centauro was developed at the request of the Italian Army by a consortium of IVECO-Fiat and OTO-Melara. The goal was to create a highly mobile tank destroyer armed with a 105 mm gun like the one used on the Leopard 1. The vehicles combine a 4-axle, all wheel driven configuration with strong mechanical design, powerful armament, modern electronic hardware and an effective fire control system. The steel armour provides protection against small calibre rounds up to 14.5 mm and, at the front, against fire up to 25 mm.
The first prototypes appeared in the mid-1980s and serial production ran from 1991 to 2006, with around 740 vehicles in the family produced. The first Italian order for 400 vehicles was placed in 1989, and in 1993, 20 vehicles were already deployed in the UN peacekeeping task in Somalia. Besides Italy, the Centauro is mentioned in service with countries including Spain, Jordan, Oman and Egypt. Order today from Most-Models.com and benefit from fast delivery, excellent customer service and a strong range of Trumpeter model kits, Italian tank destroyers and 1:35 military scale models.
