1:35 Trumpeter 00390 Brückenleger IVb WWII – German Bridgelayer Plastic Model kit
The 1:35 Trumpeter 00390 Brückenleger IVb WWII is an impressive plastic model kit of a German bridge layer based on the Panzerkampfwagen IV. This Static Armor model is ideal for modellers who want to go beyond standard tanks and expand a WWII diorama with a technically and tactically distinctive support vehicle. Thanks to the movable bridge assembly, you can build the model in transit mode or bridging mode, adding instant story and action to your scene.
The Brückenleger IV was developed for the German land forces, who realised in 1939 that they needed a mobile bridge tank to speed up engineer operations and support the movement of their own troops. To accelerate development, existing Pz.Kpfw. IV tanks were converted. The turret was removed, the opening was covered, and a bridge structure built by Magirus or Krupp was installed on top of the hull. The first prototypes appeared in 1939, and 48 vehicles were ordered in 1939-1940, although probably fewer were produced.
From February to May 1940, 20 Panzer IV Ausf. C/D vehicles were converted by Krupp into Brückenleger IVb bridge layers. Of these, 16 vehicles received bridging equipment from Magirus and 4 from Krupp. The 9-metre bridge had a 28-ton capacity. The vehicles saw service in Belgium and France in 1940 with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 10th Panzer Division. Because the vehicle proved too heavy for the suspension, the design was cancelled in 1941 and most were converted back into regular battle tanks in late 1940. Order today from Most-Models.com and benefit from fast delivery, excellent customer service and a strong range of Trumpeter model kits, German bridge layers and 1:35 military scale models.
