1:35 Trumpeter 00393 USMC LAV-AD – Light Armored Vehicle-Air Defense – American Anti-Aircraft Vehicle Plastic Model kit
The 1:35 Trumpeter 00393 USMC LAV-AD Light Armored Vehicle-Air Defense is a powerful plastic model kit of a modern American air defence vehicle based on the LAV-25. This Static Armor model is ideal for modellers who want to expand their collection with a USMC vehicle that combines speed, protection and air defence in one striking eight-wheeled armoured vehicle.
The LAV-AD was developed by General Dynamics for the US Marine Corps and uses the chassis of the LAV-25. The key change compared with the LAV-25 is the addition of air defence armament and suitable electronics for effective use against low-altitude aerial threats. The vehicle is intended to defend against fixed-wing aircraft, rotary-wing aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles within the envelope of the Stinger missiles and 25 mm ammunition. It can also provide ground defence against light armoured mechanised forces.
The armament consists of a GAU-12/U 25 mm Gatling gun and two quadruple FIM-92 Stinger missile launchers. The Blazer turret includes a forward-looking infrared targeting sight, a laser range finder and the option of using either Stinger missiles or the rapid-fire GAU-12/U cannon. The vehicle retains the capabilities of the LAV-25 and Avenger, with a crew compartment that allows two operators to search and scan the air through separate turret windows.
