Description

Build two iconic American WWII fighter aircraft with the 1:48 Eduard 11200 Sharks and Stallions Limited Edition. This special dual kit contains the Curtiss P-40N Warhawk and North American P-51B/C Mustang and focuses on aircraft from the China-Burma-India Theater. With Eduard plastic parts, eight marking options, decals, pre-painted photo-etched parts and painting masks, this set offers everything for an impressive two-aircraft modelling project.

The P-40 Warhawk prototype first flew in 1938 and the aircraft became one of the most-produced American fighters, with more than 15,000 built by the end of production in December 1944. Development started with the Curtiss Model 75 and resulted in numerous versions, including the British Tomahawk variants and P-40D. Although the Warhawk eventually fell behind newer Allied and Axis fighters in performance, it saw extensive service. According to the supplied information, the P-40E reached 580 km/h, had a range of 1,100 km and a practical ceiling of 8,800 metres, with six 12.7 mm M2 machine guns and up to 900 kg of external ordnance.

The set also lets you build the P-51B/C Mustang from the famous Mustang family. The P-51 prototype first flew on 26 October 1940. This all-metal long-range fighter earned an outstanding reputation through its combination of speed, range, manoeuvrability and armament. Replacing the Allison engine with the Rolls-Royce Merlin brought major improvements, and the Mustang served in air superiority, escort, reconnaissance and ground-attack roles. Later developments such as the P-51D with its Packard V-1650-7 engine built upon the P-51B and demonstrate the success of the design, with Mustangs remaining in active service into the 1970s.
