The 1:48 Eduard 82147 Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8 ProfiPACK Edition is a high-quality plastic model kit of a German Second World War fighter aircraft. This edition combines the powerful appearance of the Fw 190A-8 with the extra finishing options you expect from a ProfiPACK kit: Eduard plastic parts, Eduard decals, five marking options, pre-painted PE parts and a painting mask.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was a single-engine, all-metal fighter aircraft with an enclosed cockpit and low-wing layout. Many pilots considered the Fw 190 a better aircraft than the Messerschmitt Bf 109. Development began after a Luftfahrtministerium order in autumn 1937, when Kurt Tank submitted proposals using either a Daimler-Benz DB 601 or the new BMW 139 radial engine. The radial engine was selected, and work began in 1938 under Obering R. Blaser.
The first prototype, the Fw 190V1, was ready in May 1939 and flew on 1 June 1939 in Bremen with Captain Hans Sander. The Fw 190V2 followed in October 1939 and was armed with two MG131 and two MG17 machine guns of 7.92 mm calibre. During development, the air intake, engine installation, cooling, cockpit position and wing shape were all adjusted. The Fw 190V5 later received a longer wing, slightly reducing speed but improving climb rate and manoeuvrability. In August 1941, 6./JG 26 at Le Bourget became operational with the Fw 190, and its advantage over the British Supermarine Spitfire soon became clear.
Several versions of this famous aircraft were created during the war. The A versions served as fighters, the B and C versions remained high-altitude prototypes, the D version received the 1750 hp Jumo 213A engine as a German response to the P-51 Mustang, and the F and G versions were used as fighter-bombers, with the G variant offering greater range. With more than 20,000 examples produced, the Fw 190 became one of the best fighters of the Second World War.
