Description

A real wooden deck, exceptionally fine metal details and four brass gun barrels: the Hasegawa 43178 IJN Mikasa Full Hull Special - Full Detail-Up allows you to recreate one of the most famous Japanese battleships in naval history. This deluxe plastic model kit in 1:700 scale combines a complete hull with an extensive selection of high-quality detailing components. The genuine wooden deck, photo-etched metal parts and precision-turned gun barrels give the model an exceptionally realistic appearance. With an included wooden display base and aluminium nameplate, the completed battleship can also be presented as an impressive centrepiece in any naval model collection.

The IJN Mikasa was constructed at the end of the nineteenth century by the British shipbuilder Vickers in Barrow-in-Furness and entered service with the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1902. One of the most powerful warships of its era, the battleship carried four 305 mm main guns, fourteen 152 mm guns and substantial armour protection. During the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905, Mikasa served as the flagship of Admiral Heihachiro Togo. The ship played an important role in the Battle of the Yellow Sea on 10 August 1904 and became internationally famous during the Battle of Tsushima on 27-28 May 1905. This decisive naval engagement ended in a major Japanese victory, establishing Mikasa as a symbol of Japanese maritime history. The original battleship survives today as a museum ship in Yokosuka, Japan.

Hasegawa has equipped this special Full Detail-Up edition with an impressive collection of refined components. The laser-cut wooden deck is approximately 0.25 mm thick and features a self-adhesive backing for straightforward, accurate installation. Its natural wood texture provides a realistic deck finish. The photo-etched metal parts include railings, gratings, doors, catwalks, stern walks, secondary gun shutters and ladders. Four precision-turned brass barrels add further refinement to the main armament. The full-hull configuration reproduces the complete ship, including its underwater hull, making it particularly suitable for presentation on the supplied wooden display base. The kit offers two historically significant appearance options: the Battle of Tsushima in 1905 and the Battle of the Yellow Sea in 1904.
