Description

Two fuselages, five engines and an impressive bomb load: the Heinkel He 111Z-2 ranks among the most extraordinary German aircraft designs of the Second World War. With the Hasegawa 02534 Heinkel He 111Z-2 Long-Range Bomber, you can recreate this remarkable aircraft as a plastic model kit in 1:72 scale. Known as the Zwilling, meaning 'twin' in German, the aircraft featured an unusual configuration consisting of two Heinkel He 111 fuselages joined together. This special Hasegawa release depicts a proposed bomber version carrying six heavy SC1000 bombs beneath its wings. A fascinating subject for enthusiasts of unusual Luftwaffe aircraft and experimental Second World War designs.

The Heinkel He 111Z was originally developed to tow the enormous Messerschmitt Me 321 Gigant transport gliders. To achieve this, two He 111 bomber fuselages were connected by an additional centre wing section, which housed a fifth Junkers Jumo 211 engine. The result was an unusual aircraft featuring two fuselages, five propellers and an exceptionally large wingspan. The He 111Z-1 was actually built and operated as a glider tug, but plans were also developed to adapt the design into a heavy long-range bomber. This proposed version received the designation He 111Z-2. However, the project was never completed, and the bomber variant did not enter operational service.

Hasegawa offers the opportunity to recreate this fascinating, unrealised aircraft design in miniature. The kit captures the distinctive twin-fuselage configuration and includes six SC1000 bombs for mounting beneath the main wings and central wing section. Two specially produced resin bomb racks provide the mounting points for the bombs beneath the centre section. The included decals represent a hypothetical Luftwaffe aircraft carrying the code A1+KM, portrayed as belonging to the 4th Staffel of Kampfgeschwader 53 in Russia. With its unusual configuration and impressive five-engine layout, the He 111Z-2 makes a striking display model. A distinctive modelling project for enthusiasts of German aircraft development and historical 'what-if' designs.
