1:72 Hasegawa 31156 54 cm Mörser Karl 041 with Munitionspanzer IV Ausf. F WWII - German Self-Propelled Mortar Plastic Model kit

An enormous mortar, impressive tracked vehicles and shells weighing more than a tonne: the German Mörser Karl was among the heaviest artillery weapons of the Second World War. With the Hasegawa 31156 54 cm Mörser Karl 041 with Munitionspanzer IV Ausf. F, you can recreate this extraordinary weapons system as a plastic model kit in 1:72 scale. This comprehensive set includes not only the imposing self-propelled mortar but also a dedicated ammunition carrier based on the Panzer IV, together with 24 crew and soldier figures. This combination allows you to create a complete military scene featuring one of Germany's most remarkable wartime artillery designs.

The Karl-Gerät was developed by Rheinmetall from 1936 onwards as an exceptionally heavy siege weapon intended to destroy bunkers and fortified defensive positions. The original Karl-Gerät 040 carried a 60 cm mortar, while the later Gerät 041 featured a longer barrel with a reduced calibre of 54 cm. This modification allowed the weapon to fire its enormous shells over a greater distance, with a maximum range of approximately 10 kilometres. Despite its impressive firepower, the Karl-Gerät was extremely heavy and slow-moving. Weighing over 120 tonnes, it required extensive preparation before firing. Karl mortars were deployed during operations including the siege of Sevastopol in 1942 and the fighting associated with the Warsaw Uprising in 1944.

Special ammunition carriers based on the Panzer IV chassis were developed to supply these enormous mortars. The Munitionspanzer IV featured a lifting crane used to handle the exceptionally heavy shells and assist with the loading process. Hasegawa combines both vehicles in one extensive model kit. The Karl mortar features an imposing tracked chassis and enormous artillery assembly, while the Munitionspanzer IV, complete with its distinctive crane, illustrates the logistical support required to operate the weapon. The kit contains approximately 319 parts, rubber tracks, decals and 24 German soldier figures. This combination makes it particularly suitable for a detailed diorama depicting ammunition transport, loading preparations or the operation of the heavy mortar.
