With the 1:72 IBG Models 72908 Sukhoi Su-20 Polish Air Force, you can build a distinctive Polish Cold War fighter-bomber. The Su-20, known by the NATO reporting name Fitter-C, was the export version of the Soviet Su-17 and combined high-speed performance with variable-sweep wings. Poland was the only Warsaw Pact country outside the Soviet Union to operate the Su-20 and received its first aircraft in 1974.

In Polish service, the Su-20 was used primarily for ground attack, tactical support and reconnaissance missions. The aircraft mainly served with the 7th Bomber-Reconnaissance Aviation Brigade / 7th Regiment at Powidz. Powered by the Lyulka AL-21F-3 turbojet and equipped with swing-wing technology, the Su-20 offered strong performance and could exceed Mach 2. Its maximum external weapons load was around 4,000 kg and could include a wide range of bombs, rockets and guided weapons.

Reconnaissance was also an important part of the Su-20’s role. Polish aircraft were adapted to carry KKR-1 reconnaissance pods, while some machines received permanently installed cameras and were informally referred to as Su-20R.
