Description

Experience the impressive power of a legendary World War II aircraft carrier with the 1:700 Hasegawa 44708 USS Hancock CV-19 from the famous Water Line Series. This detailed plastic model kit recreates one of the most important American aircraft carriers of the Pacific War and is a must-have for enthusiasts of naval history, WWII warships and high-quality ship modeling.

USS Hancock (CV-19) was an American aircraft carrier of the famous Essex class and belonged to the Ticonderoga subtype. The ship was laid down in January 1943, launched in January 1944 and commissioned into the United States Navy on April 15, 1944. With a length of approximately 271 meters, a beam of 28 meters at the waterline and a full displacement of around 41,700 tons, it represented a formidable naval force. The carrier could reach speeds of about 33 knots and carried between 90 and 100 aircraft.

Originally the ship was to be named Ticonderoga, but shortly before launching its name was changed to USS Hancock. During World War II the carrier played an important role in the Pacific War. It saw its first combat operations in October 1944 when its aircraft carried out diversionary attacks on airfields in Okinawa and Formosa. In November and December 1944 the ship supported American operations in the Philippines. In 1945 aircraft from the carrier took part in operations around Iwo Jima and conducted attacks on the Japanese home islands. Aircraft from USS Hancock were even present during the Japanese surrender ceremony on September 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay.

After the war the ship was placed in reserve but later underwent a major modernization including a redesigned flight deck, modified superstructure and updated electronic systems. In 1954 the carrier returned to active service and later participated in the Vietnam War. USS Hancock was finally decommissioned on January 30, 1976 and scrapped later that same year.
